Interfaces are becoming spatial. Sound is being synthesized from text. Scent is being mapped to memory and mood. Touch is being digitized. AI is beginning to generate visual and auditory experience at scale. The built environment is being redesigned around behavioral and biometric response.

It is 2026, and every major sensory domain is being actively re-engineered.

Ode is building the framework for understanding what that means for human experience. Not as prediction. As rigorous, ongoing observation.

    Small tests, prototypes, and investigations that allow ideas to be explored before they become finished projects.

    Investigations into perception, culture, sensory systems, and how experiences shape the way we think.

What is being built

A perception record.

Ode publishes editorial, runs live research, designs experiences, and builds tools, all organized across the same eight sensory domains: Taste, Scent, Touch, Sight, Sound, Space, Time, System. Every issue of Wavelength, every Ode experience, every investigation adds to the same longitudinal record of how perception is shifting.

This is the kind of work that does not fit neatly into a media company, a research lab, or an event studio. It is all three, in the same framework, compounding over time. That is what the Grant supports.

Why it matters now

Multisensory experience is becoming the design frontier.

The most advanced interfaces being built today are spatial, ambient, embodied. They activate more than one sense at once, and they are designed to produce specific felt responses. Understanding how those responses form, what moves them, what the thresholds are, what changes when the sequence changes, is one of the more consequential questions in experience design right now.

Ode is one of the few operations treating this as a research question with a consistent methodology and a growing dataset, from outside an institution, in public, in real time.

The work that gets funded is the work that shapes what gets built. Independent funding is what keeps this work free from the pressures that would distort its direction.

A way to take part

Not everyone will attend an Ode experience, contribute to the research, or collaborate on a project. The Ode Grant offers another way to participate in what the studio is building.

Contributions support the development of new work across research, editorial, experiments, tools, and experiences.
